We prefer to fish the backcountry
When you leave from the boat ramp you really can go left or right. Straight across is Sanibel, so then one way or another you have to make a turn. Going left puts you out into the Gulf for the deep water fish. Heading to the right takes you towards Captiva and the backcountry of Pine Island.

I like the options from this ramp, as you can travel in about a half a dozen different directions, meaning different waterway destinations to explore. Yes, you can swing up the river to Cape Coral, go inside our outside Pine Island, head to Captiva using the backcountry route, or slip directly into the Gulf and tour: Ft. Myers Beach, Sanibel, or Bonita.
